The Bellringersof St John'sThe art of Campanology is unique to the British Isles and enjoyed by over 5000 church bell towers across the country. St John’s first six bells were cast in 1824 with another two being added to the bell tower in 1871. Bell ringing at St John’s has a long established tradition with a total of 57 peals rung; the first in 1873 and the most recent on Saturday 29th June 2024.
In the last 18 months fresh life has been given to St John’s peal of eight bells with a band of new ringers. Bell Ringers practice every Monday evening at 6.30pm to 8.30pm and new ringers are always welcome. St John’s Bell Ringers also ring at other tower practices including Ripon Cathedral. |
