We would love to welcome YOU to St John’s, Sharow this week. We have two very special services this week to mark All Saints Day and All Souls Day, both based around remembrance of those we hold dear. Everyone is very welcome to our warm and beautiful Church (parking & disability access). At 10am on Sunday we have a special Café Church; a peaceful, joyous and thoughtful time of togetherness to reflect and celebrate The Saints—both known and unknown—who have found their way to heaven. As we honor their legacy, we will also light candles in memory of loved ones we’ve lost, embracing their light in our hearts. Join us for a gentle gathering filled with comfort, connection, song and hope. At 3pm you are warmly invited to join us for a quieter, contemplative service. Together, we will pause to remember and honour those we have loved and lost, holding them in our hearts with peace and gratitude. This time of reflection is open to all who seek solace, comfort, and remembrance. A service inviting you to come together in gentle stillness, embracing the love and memories that endure.
Huge thanks to the wonderful Friends of St John’s for funding and facilitating our marvellous new pathway, replacing a very old and loved pavement. We are so very excited to see all of the people who follow this new pathway to St John's. We were delighted to be joined this morning by Bishop Anna who lead The Magdalen Fellowship in a beautiful service of Holy Communion and anointing. We were treated to a thought provoking and inspiring sermon from Luke 10: 38-end
At the Home of Martha and Mary 38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you carethat my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” 41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” A reminder to keep our eyes on God and that we all give and receive love differently. We look forward to welcoming you this week at St. John's via our new pathway ! Please join us on Sunday 22nd September for a special service for all of the family, to celebrate Harvest, with a sharing lunch afterwards. Please be in your seats for 10am.
After the service, there will be a bring and share Harvest lunch. You are very welcome to join in, please bring something tasty if you can. Soup, bread, salads, cake, fruit, cheese, snacks or anything else you can think of. We'd also be very grateful for any donations of tins or packets for The Village Food Pantry, which is open to all to help themselves. Newcomers are very welcome and we are happy to assign a welcomer to meet you in the car park and sit with you if you like, we know coming to church for the first time can be daunting ! |
